Do you need to verify a power of attorney for use abroad? We provide notary certification of signatures, Apostille and Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation, as well as certified translations. We ensure that your document is fully recognised abroad.

How to Apostille or Superlegalise a Power of Attorney for Use Abroad

In some cases, you may need to authorise a person, lawyer, or company abroad to act on your behalf. A power of attorney intended for use abroad must be certified directly by a notary. The notary verifies your signature on the power of attorney and must be informed that it is intended for use abroad. Only then can the document be further legalised – by Apostille or Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation.

Important: Czech Post is not a notary! Documents verified at Czech Post (Czech Point) cannot usually be apostilled or superlegalised.

To certify your signature, the notary must understand the contents of the power of attorney. Therefore, powers of attorney are usually written in Czech. If the notary is fluent in another language, they can also verify a document written in that language.

We can arrange full notary services, including signature verification. Our cooperating notary can verify powers of attorney in Czech, English, German and Ukrainian. If your document is in another language, we will arrange its translation and prepare it for notary verification.

Apostille for Powers of Attorney

The Apostille is always issued on the original document (we do not recommend using notarised copies).

  • The Apostille is issued by the notary who certified the document.
  • It can be arranged without translation into the target country’s language.

Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation

Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation of a power of attorney certified by a notary can only be carried out on the original document.

The document must be officially translated into English or the official language of the destination country. Some countries also require Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation of the certified translation itself.

Notary services

We will take care of certified copies of your documents, or arrange for signature verification with our notary.
We can also convert electronic documents into physical form and obtain official extracts on your behalf — such as criminal record extracts or entries from the Commercial Register.

We will represent you at the authorities to obtain vital records or, for example, a criminal record extract, based on a certified power of attorney. This power of attorney can be arranged either at a Czech POINT office or at a Czech embassy or consulate abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you also provide notary services?

Yes, we cooperate with a notary and can arrange various services such as signature verification and obtaining extracts from registers.

Do I need to translate the power of attorney before Apostille / Superlegalisation?

For Apostille – translation is not required; however, to use the document abroad, a certified translation into the target language is usually necessary.
For Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation – a certified translation into English or the official language of the destination country is required, as embassies will not legalise documents they cannot understand.

Do I need to give you a power of attorney to arrange Apostille / Superlegalisation?

For Apostille – no power of attorney is required.
For Superlegalisation / Embassy Attestation – some embassies (e.g. Thailand) require a separate power of attorney authorising us to act on your behalf. We will send you a suitable template for this purpose.

Can a power of attorney certified by Czech Post be apostilled or superlegalised?

No, powers of attorney certified at Czech Post (Czech Point) are valid only within the Czech Republic and cannot be apostilled or superlegalised, as most employees do not have registered signature specimens at the ministry.

Do I need to come to your office in person?

No, your document can be delivered by anyone. You can also send it by post (we recommend EMS) to:
Překlady textu s.r.o., Senovážné náměstí 23, 110 00 Prague 1.
Please include your contact details and a short note describing the service you need.
We will return your finalised document anywhere in the Czech Republic or abroad via DHL or FedEx.
